ABOUT “DIABETES,” HOLLAND
Some 1 million people in the Netherlands have diabetes, yet approximately 250,000 go undiagnosed. As the numbers continue to rise, it’s increasingly important that we raise awareness about the condition, and how to treat it. To do so, we not only collaborated with leading doctors and experts, but also showcased two inspirational stories. Dutch karate champion Lydia Mossel was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of ten, but through discipline and proper treatment she manages both her disease and her hectic schedule. Two years ago, Alexander Geleijns weighed over 225 kilos (495 lbs). In 2009 he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was forced to go on medication. When his mother died from diabetes-related consequences, he decided to turn his life around and lost nearly 85 kilos (187 lbs). Thanks to hard work and lifestyle changes, he no longer needs his medication.
We chose to distribute the report in De Telegraaf, the largest Dutch daily newspaper. In addition, we distributed copies at the World Diabetes Congress on World Diabetes Day. After our release we received praise from readers grateful for the resource, and thanks from clients who appreciated the opportunity to advertise in a niche, action-oriented editorial environment.
